Maduwanwela Walawwa (Maduwanwela Mansion)

In past, there was clan called "Walaw". People who born in those place had high class in society. But today this clan are can seen rarely. Walaw clan always directly deal with King. In Sri Lanka can seen lots of walaw but only few of them are in good condition. So, today most of the people prefer to visit Walaw in many places.
Historical evidences suggest that Maduwanwela Walawwa was a gift for Maduwanwela Wijesundara Ekanayake Abekoon from the King Wimaladharma sooriya in 2nd Century AD. Maduwanwela warrior used Maduwanwela Walawwa by three generations and it was renovated many times during that period. He was gifted as much as 16,500 acres of land with the Walawwa. Last warrior of the Maduwanwela clan was the great Maduwanwela Disawe. His existence was recorded from the end of 19th to 20th Century; he had been a civil servant of the British government and overlooked the affairs of tax collection and justice.It was consisted of 121 rooms, 21 center courts three security walls, and a hall of justice. Internal Walls of the Walauwa are strengthened with cane structure while it is measured to be 25 cm thick.
At present 43 rooms are visible with 7 court yards and a fountain at the entrance. The Walauwa is still in good condition which is built with two floors. Entire building can be divided into three parts namely Satin palace, Main complex and Maha Bungalow. Satin Palace considered as the guests retreat and it occupies the entire upper floor. The upper floor is built with balconies from all four directions.
The Walawwa was occupied by generations of elite and the last of them was the Maduwanwela Maha Disawe who was born in the latter part of 19th century. The Maduwanwela Maha Disawewa an influence servant of the Kandyan king, he passed away in 1930/09/06. The only daughter of Disawe was known as Dingiri Appo (Maduwanwela little princess) unfortunately she had been disabled. The death of Maduwanwela little princess in 1962 was the end of the Great Maduwanwela generation.

Waulpane Cave - Lime stone Cave

Caving is not popular in Sri Lanka than the other countries. But there are many hidden caves in Sri Lanka. From them Wavul Pane is best place for caving.If you hope to visit this cave better to join with the local guide. And also need a torch before enter to the cave.
Wavula Pane is a cave located in Bulutota Rakwana range, northwest of Embilipitiya one of the archaeological site located in Sri Lanka. The cave is located in the Ratnapura District, in the Kolonne Korale, about 278 m (912 feet) above sea level. A rough estimate of the age of the cave places it at around 500 million years. The cave mainly comprises limestone. The meaning of Wavul Pane (Sinhalese name) is Cave of Bats. Approximately more than 250,000 bats that inhabit it and also cockroaches, amphibians and fish can seen there.That is why it named as "Wavula Pane".The stream, which runs through this cave, becomes a wonderful waterfall at the center.

Reached via the Pelmadulla – Ambilipitiya road, turning off at Thuntota, Pallebadda junction and then on along Bulutota road for a distance of 10kms up to Waulpane School.

Hulan Ella - Ratnapura District

Do you know huge number of waterfalls can identify in Ratnapaura District. It can nearly 200. But how many waterfalls do you in this district???  Some waterfalls are not known as tourists. But they are really attractive places to visit. From them, Hulan Ella is better place for enjoy the nature.This 30m-high fall originates from a rain forest. To the east is Doowili Falls and there is another to the west. Take the Balangoda - Kaltota road via Wekiliya and Watawala to Mulgama. The journey of 8 km is best undertaken in a four-wheel drive vehicle. The Balangoda rest-house is 22 km away.
