Waulpane Cave - Lime stone Cave

Caving is not popular in Sri Lanka than the other countries. But there are many hidden caves in Sri Lanka. From them Wavul Pane is best place for caving.If you hope to visit this cave better to join with the local guide. And also need a torch before enter to the cave.
Wavula Pane is a cave located in Bulutota Rakwana range, northwest of Embilipitiya one of the archaeological site located in Sri Lanka. The cave is located in the Ratnapura District, in the Kolonne Korale, about 278 m (912 feet) above sea level. A rough estimate of the age of the cave places it at around 500 million years. The cave mainly comprises limestone. The meaning of Wavul Pane (Sinhalese name) is Cave of Bats. Approximately more than 250,000 bats that inhabit it and also cockroaches, amphibians and fish can seen there.That is why it named as "Wavula Pane".The stream, which runs through this cave, becomes a wonderful waterfall at the center.

Reached via the Pelmadulla – Ambilipitiya road, turning off at Thuntota, Pallebadda junction and then on along Bulutota road for a distance of 10kms up to Waulpane School.
